The hen was completely destroyed by a mob of pill bugs overnight. RIP. We scattered the twelve healthy chicks around the garden.
Here is a short note regarding pill bugs in case you encounter pill bug overpopulation as well:
Pill bugs will target your young shoots, low-lying succulents, and some flower stems especially on dry days. Large numbers of them may enter your garden from compost and mulch.
We are now preparing pill bug traps. The following is an easy method:
Ingrain a small, steep plastic container into the soil, making sure the rim is at ground level. Leave bits of fruit to lure them in. The pill bugs can survive and swim in water, so empty the traps before and after rainfall.
